Kuala Lumpur, MY: Hotel Sentral Pudu

We booked our accommodation through Five Stars Tours as soon as we got to Kuala Lumpur. The staff member was so helpful in recommending one. He gave us 3 options, one of which was Hotel Sentral Pudu.

It was less than a year old at the time, and only a 2-minute walk to and from the Five Stars office on Jalan Pudu, so checking in for our ride back to Singapore won't be threatened by traffic and their usual means of transportation.

He asked if we preferred a Deluxe over a Superior Room as many guests find the latter quite small for their liking. We didn't mind since there were only 3 of us to share the space. So we booked a Superior Room with 2 single beds.

For a 3-star hotel, the rate was pretty competitive.

Superior Room
MYR 147/night (PHP 2058)

Includes:
Complimentary buffet breakfast for 2 per day
2-3 complimentary bottles of mineral water
Complimentary Wi-Fi access
Complimentary coffee and tea
Complimentary bus and shuttle service

Booking 3 nights cost us approximately MYR 441 (PHP 6,174). Not too shabby, eh?

As soon as we got to our room, we wondered why other guests thought it was small. The room was big enough for 4 people with ample space to do cartwheels and egg rolls if you felt like it!

When staying in hotels, what usually seals the deal for me (aside from a delicious buffet breakfast and accessibility) are the pillows and really cozy comforters. After walking for hours on end, resting on (and getting lost under) cold and clean fluff after a warm shower will only mean you're in for a good night's rest.

The view from our room was overlooking Jalan Pudu, the old jail (I didn't even notice that until I looked at the map - meaning it wasn't creepy or scary to have as a view), and the police station. One morning, we were awakened (for a few minutes) by chants at 4:00 am. There was a temple close by and locals were saying their morning prayers.

Their buffet breakfast didn't disappoint, I must say. I'm not really picky with breakfast, but a buffet that has a wide selection of fruits and tea is quite enough for a morning fix. Dishes on the menu were extensive: Japanese, Chinese, American, Korean, Indian, Singaporean, and Malaysian. They had fresh salads, too, which was another plus! The juices were mango, orange, pink guava (yum!), and pineapple. They served hot milk, cold milk, cereals (Koko Krunch and Kellog's Corn Flakes), porridge/congee, and lots of desserts. It's also a good time to get all the different nutrients and energy you need for the day so a good morning meal could help start a traveler's day right.

All in all, if you're looking for a 3-star hotel just a short walk from Bukit Bintang, look no further. You'll save a lot on your cab fare!
